Kerala Weather

The climate of Kerala is humid tropical. Benefiting by both the Southwest (June to September) and Northwest (October to December) monsoons, precipitation is good. 60% of the annual rainfall is from the Southwest and 25% from the Northwest monsoon. Kerala stands foremost in the country both in rainfall and the number of rainy days. Normally most areas get 2,000 to 4,000 mm rainfall annually, with an average of 3,000 mm.

The climate of Kerala varies due to the sea on the west and the high relief on the east. The climate in Kerala is warmest during March-May (average temperature 32°C) and the coolest during December-January (average temperature 27°C). The coastal areas experience sea breezes. The temperature decreases as we precede lowland to midland to highland and the same is the case with humidity. The variability of annual rainfall is inversely proportional to reliability of rainfall.
